History

Aaron's Acres was founded as a day camp in 1998 by a group of parents who had children with special needs. These parents could not find an appropriate program to meet their children's needs. Contact was made with The Special Kids Network, a program piloted by United Disabilities Services, which is a resource and referral program. With their support and assistance, the parents were encouraged to create a new program which is now known as Aaron's Acres. They started out with a one week session of camp and served 11 children. Last year, over 140 kids attended one of the camp programs held in Lancaster, Reading or Harrisburg. Children between the ages of 5-21 are able to attend this program. A monthly respite program during the school year was created at the request of the parents after they experienced the summer component. Respite programs are held in Ephrata, Reading and Lancaster.
